A WorkSafe investigation, WorkSafe investigator attendance, is generally related to an incident, or accident, where a breach of the prescribed legislation has occurred, or a person was injured or killed in a workplace. There is a requirement to facilitate the investigation, as the whole site may be 'seized' by the investigations team. These investigations are concerned with Health and Safety, Dangerous Goods compliance, High Risk operations, and rehabilitation. They can encompass allegations of fraud, by a worker (although reasonably rare investigations, due the constraints placed on them by Government).
Before a WorkSafe investigator gets involved, generally, once a claim is accepted, the employer must raise a reasonable belief (with proof), of fraud. The reason for this is that, once the WorkCover claim is accepted by the insurer they basically become a rehabilitation coordinator. This is where the private investigator comes in. We conduct the investigation, and gather the evidence, to establish the 'real world' capacity of the claimant; this may, or may not, substantiate their claims, show that they are exaggerating them, or just lying.
