The Private Group Pty Ltd is a network of investigators, and process servers. It came about by accident when the director, a former Queensland Police Officer, was asked to assist with an industrial incident, which led to a traffic accident investigation. It was not the intended direction he sought, but the company arose out of other requests of a similar nature.

The general break up of private investigator services includes private investigator surveillance, factual investigation (overt investigations), and process serving.

More specifically we provide evidence gathering for matters such as WorkCover and insurance actions, child custody investigations, and child access court preparation, criminal defence brief preparation, traffic accident investigation (preferably close to the time of the incident, where evidence may still be found), relationship suspicion investigations, private drug investigation, work performance and compliance investigations, and will investigations, including fraud. Surveillance

Surveillance is a major component of private investigation. It requires 'fuzzy logic', patience, and more front than a rat with a gold tooth, at times. You have to remember that the eye is drawn to movement, colour, silhouette, shape and shine ... this is the same lesson taught to any young soldier about camouflage. There are many 'tricks' used by surveillance operatives to avoid observation, as well as many boundaries not to be crossed to ensure the surveillance is lawful. All insurance investigator activity, private investigation, should be lawfully conducted; relationship investigation also has lines that should not be crossed.
Surveillance is used for matters such as WorkCover investigations, by a workplace injury claim investigator, including suspected fraud, for child custody issues, divorce property settlement, and relationship suspicions.

Factual Investigation

Factual investigation is generally about answering the questions who, what, when, where, how and why. Sometimes you may start with the answer to some questions, which allows you to create a theory, or theories, about the other questions, or draw some conclusions. You then need to test, or find evidence, to prove or disprove the theory, to establish facts, or gather sufficient evidence to prove a matter. This evidence, supporting the theory, has to reach either a civil standard (balance of probability), or a criminal standard (beyond reasonable doubt). This is used for an employee investigation, civil actions, traffic accident investigation, insurance investigation, as well as criminal defence investigation. You may also seek to negate a defence, search for someone or  locate a witness.

Background Check

In Australia a background check is a challenge. Our Privacy Act (and fear of the Act by those that have never read it), prevents many people from giving information that would assist us.
A person owns their own criminal history, but there are ways to find major incidents, when researching someone.
A relationship history is also a challenge, but you can find indications.
Making a background search, without making 'ripples' is more challenging, as can conducting a search for a person (a skip trace), where the last contact was many years before, or the person doesn't want to be found. Females can be more difficult than males to find, after an extended period, as they are more likely to change name, upon marriage.

Child custody investigations often use facets of all the above services to put together the evidence required to move from an allegation to establishing a fact. Without supporting evidence a statement, no matter how true, remains an allegation.

Not all investigations can be discreet, there are times when an overt investigation is required. This said, where discretion is required, we observe the clients request. They are they one paying, and the one for whom we are providing the service. Where we become aware of a criminal intent by a client (this has happened), or that they are lying to us about important aspects of the case (such as their identity, or that there is a court order they are breaking), then our agreement is based on a lie, and becomes non-binding. In these cases we are obliged to answer truthfully questions put to us by law enforcement.
